From dairy farming to vegetables
In the past, De Seizoenshoeve was a traditional dairy and livestock farm. Today, the focus is on vegetable production, combined with beef cattle. The family is proud of this transition.
Step by step, they evolved towards a more regenerative way of farming. This means they aim to maintain healthy soil and strong crops as much as possible. They use fewer crop protection products and increasingly opt for mechanical weed control. Sustainable and environmentally conscious farming is central.
Taste and quality first
Their greatest pride? The shift from dairy farming to vegetable production. In addition, they also distribute field-grown strawberries through short supply chains. In their region, they are the only vegetable grower.
The challenge for the future is clear: producing high-quality vegetables with as few chemical inputs as possible. This requires knowledge, planning, and close monitoring in the field. Still, they manage to cultivate almost all year round. Only March and April are more difficult months, as this is when planting is in full swing. Cauliflowers are available for 9 to 10 months a year. Pumpkins follow in autumn. Parsnips are available from November to March.
