In 2014, Bart took over the business from his parents-in-law. He grows black radish, parsnip and sweet potato. “The winter season is by far the most labour-intensive,” he says. Bart’s busiest time of year is from October to December. “The black radish and sweet potatoes have to be harvested before the first frost, and in December we get everything ready for sale,” says Bart.
Sowing and keeping weeds under control is Bart’s favourite part of the growing process. “It’s not always easy, but every time it works out, it’s really satisfying.”
A second passion
Besides being a passionate grower, Bart is also a keen horse enthusiast. “Sadly, I can’t ride anymore, but breeding horses is my second biggest passion.”
