About us

BelOrta, BelOrta, surprisingly fun. Most people can undoubtedly hum along. But what does BelOrta do? What does BelOrta stand for? And more importantly, what can BelOrta mean for you? We'd be happy to list it here for you.

Strong together as a cooperative

BelOrta is not a traditional company. We are a cooperative: that means our growers are not only suppliers but also co-owners. They make decisions, build the future together, and share in the results. This sense of community fosters trust, transparency, and long-term relationships. From young start-ups to experienced farming families: all consciously choose collaboration, craftsmanship, and innovation.

Fresh from the auction

Every morning at BelOrta kicks off with a buzzing auction. Growers deliver their freshly harvested products, and buyers – from local traders to international distributors – place real-time bids via the auction clock. It’s a system that blends speed, transparency and market dynamics. Thanks to the auction sales, products make their way to consumers in an efficient and fair way, with respect for both grower and customer.

Sustainable from farm to mouth

Sustainability is in everything we do: from how our growers cultivate, to how we sort, package, and transport. We are fully committed to organic and integrated cultivation, reducing waste and consuming less energy and water. Additionally, we build infrastructure that is future-proof, and promote knowledge sharing around sustainable practices. This way, our sector continues to progress, with respect for people and the environment.

A story that continues to grow

The history of BelOrta begins more than a century ago, with small horticultural auctions spread across Flanders. Over the years, these grew into strong, local players that gradually united. Today, BelOrta is the result of that intense cooperation, with solid roots in the Belgian agricultural tradition and an open outlook on the future. Every merger, every milestone brought new opportunities and growth prospects for our growers.

From Limburg to East Flanders

BelOrta operates in all major horticultural regions of the country, with locations in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, Borgloon, Zellik, and Glabbeek. This local distribution allows us to react quickly: products are quickly collected, sorted, and transported. Thanks to our own shuttles, efficient logistics, and sustainable buildings, we minimize our ecological footprint and maintain maximum quality.
