As one of the oldest cultivated crops in the world, beans are a staple in many global cuisines. They’re a classic in Belgium too, often served with a piece of meat and some potatoes. From June to September, beans grow in pods and come in many varieties, like butter beans, runner beans, broad beans and white beans. With their high protein and iron content, they’re ideal — especially for vegetarians and vegans. And last but not least, they’re eco-friendly, needing very little water or resources to grow. So beans don’t just bring good luck in a Twelfth Night cake — they bring it to the kitchen too: versatile, nutritious and sustainable!
