Wim Van Bedts grows cauliflower, white cabbage, red cabbage, Chinese cabbage, savoy cabbage and Brussels sprouts. In 2015, Wim joined his parents’ family business, which was founded in 1977. They initially grew industrial vegetables but switched to red and white cabbage in the early 2000s.
To expand their range, they added cauliflower and Chinese cabbage. Later on, they started growing savoy cabbage and Brussels sprouts, so they now cultivate six different crops. “I drive to BelOrta all year round to deliver cabbage,” says Wim.
Wim enjoys solving problems that come up during the growing process. “Finding a solution and seeing it actually work gives me great satisfaction,” he says.
After work
Besides all the hard work, Wim likes to go to the pub with friends on Wednesday evenings. “My work is my hobby, but a fresh beer with my mates at the pub is definitely not to be missed.”
After a long day, Wim can always be pleased with a casserole of Chinese cabbage, mashed potatoes and minced meat. “Highly recommended!”
