About Family Boeren

A family business rooted in field-grown vegetables

In 1986, Dirk and his wife Els started their field-grown vegetable farm. What began as a hobby that got out of hand grew into a genuine family business.

At first, they cultivated various types of vegetables. Later, they chose to specialise in alternative lettuce varieties. Today, they mainly grow Lollo Rossa, Lollo Bionda, and oak leaf lettuce.

The lettuce is grown outdoors and is available from the end of April to mid-November. In autumn, the Boeren family grows giant pumpkins, and in winter they also grow leeks.

A true family business

What makes their farm special is its family character. In 2011, their son Jan joined the business. He is particularly fond of pumpkin cultivation, which is why part of the acreage is dedicated to pumpkins.

According to Dirk, being a grower brings many enjoyable moments. One of them is following the entire growth process, from plant to finished product. “The pride of growing a high-quality product gives me the greatest satisfaction,” Dirk explains.

That quality does not come on its own. It is the result of years of experience, expertise, and continuous learning. Feedback from customers and consumers is also very rewarding, especially when they notice that their work is appreciated.
