In 1987, Dirk and his wife Els decided to start an open-field vegetable farm, the result of a hobby that got out of hand. At first, they grew a variety of vegetables. Later, they chose to specialise in alternative lettuce varieties. Their main crops are Lollo Rossa, Lollo Bionda and oak leaf lettuce. These are grown outdoors and available from the end of April to early November. In winter, they grow leeks. In 2011, their son Jan joined the business. He loves growing pumpkins, so part of the farmland is dedicated to pumpkins.
