A ripe pear
You can recognise a ripe Beurré Alexander Lucas pear by its yellow-green skin, sometimes with a slight blush. Gently press near the stem: if it gives a little, it’s ready to eat. A ripe pear smells sweet and has juicy, buttery-soft flesh with a mild flavour.
