The Neyens and Wuyts families grow both yellow and red peppers. In 2004, the two families joined forces and founded the organisation ‘Verenigde Groentetuinders’ (VGT). Since 2014, peppers have also been grown at a second site in Westdorpe, fittingly named ‘VGT Zeeuws-Vlaanderen’.
“Watching the plants grow is the best part, but every season has its charm,” they say. Their goal for the future is to stay up to date. One of the main challenges, however, is keeping crop protection as organic as possible to maintain control over the cultivation. The peppers are grown sustainably, using solar panels, rainwater and residual heat.
Fun fact
“Many people don’t know that peppers contain more vitamin C than oranges,” they add.
