About Family Algoet

Didier and his wife Sabine have been growing bell peppers since 1994. At the time, they chose this crop because bell peppers were becoming increasingly popular in Belgium. Over the years, the work has grown into their great passion. That is why they now focus entirely on growing bell peppers.

Bell peppers are not a typical local vegetable. As a result, you see them less often than tomatoes or cucumbers. Still, they are widely grown in Belgium as well.

The start of a new season

The season runs from March to October. During that period, Didier and Sabine harvest their bell peppers. That is when they see the results of months of hard work in the greenhouse. But their favourite moment comes in December. That is when a new season begins: the old plants are removed, and the new ones are planted.

“The best part of this work is seeing the plants grow,” says Didier. “You notice changes at every stage. And in the end, you can harvest beautiful bell peppers.”

Growing with care

Didier and Sabine are proud of their work as growers. Every day, they care for their plants with great attention. This allows them to grow beautiful and flavourful bell peppers. For sales and distribution, they work together with BelOrta. This partnership has become a trusted constant for them.

As with any crop, there are challenges. Protecting the plants requires a lot of attention. They do this by tackling diseases and pests biologically, including the use of natural predators. In this way, they limit the use of chemical products.
