Bert is the second generation in vegetable growing — his father started back in 1963, mainly focusing on lettuce. Bert took over the business in 1989. At first, he planned to continue in his father’s footsteps but with alternative types of lettuce. Then, in 2015, he became the second grower in Belgium to plant broccolini. Today, broccolini is grown on 2 of the 10 hectares Bert owns. He hopes to expand this further in the future. The broccolini can be harvested from around 20 May until mid-December, with about 10 harvests per planting.
