Domarco, the company owned by Marc Dockx, was founded in 1989 with the purchase of the current land in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. In the first year, they grew lettuce in winter and cucumbers in summer. The following year, they switched to growing only lettuce all year round. In total, Domarco has 1.5 hectares of mobile gutter systems, with the first half installed in 2006 and the second in 2009. Marc’s workforce varies from 4 employees in winter to 7 or 8 in summer. His main crops are multicolour lettuce, Lollo Bionda and Lollo Rossa. Peak periods are in April, May, June and July.
According to Marc, the biggest impact BelOrta has had on his business was introducing the marketing of lettuce with roots still attached. Thanks to this innovation from BelOrta, his lettuce stays fresh for 10 to 15 days longer, which has led to significant growth for Domarco.
Marc’s favourite dish is a salad with multicolour lettuce and salmon, but in his opinion, lettuce goes well with everything — whether it’s cheese, ham or chicken pieces.
